Mardi Gras week, March 7, 2011

Hey Everyone,

Hope you all had a good week.  Since last week I found out that the New mission President is going to be President Wall.  They're from Utah, I think.  I don't know what to expect.  President Woods is starting to be a little more strict on rules because he wants to leave the mission the best he can for President Wall.  For instance we can only listen to Mormon Tabernacle Choir now.  It's fine though because I don't have any music and neither does Elder Ruzicka.  This last week there were a couple Mardi Gras parades.  I know when you hear Mardi Gras it sounds bad, but all the parades are pretty clean and family oriented.  It's only the one down in the French quarter that is bad.  That's the one everyone always hears about though.  We went to the one on Friday and handed out tons of Mormon.org cards and other pass along cards.  We actually didn't see any of the parade because we were at the end of the route and we had to be in at 9:30.  This last week it rained a lot and Saturday there was some crazy weather.  Apparently a tornado touched down between Mandeville and Covington, but we didn't see it.  The wind was blowing pretty hard and it poured rain for hours.  I liked it though, the only problem is we weren't able to go out and tract.
We were able to commit 2 new people for baptism this week.  Adrian Ordegen is committed for the 19th of March, and Lamar Burnette is committed for the 26th of march.  Adrian is awesome.  He's way solid and he loves learning the gospel.  His story of how he found the church is cool.  He said he noticed that a lot of the people he admired were Mormon, like Mitt Romney and Glenn Beck.  He said he really admired them so he wanted to see what Mormons were and what they believed.  He went on to Google and typed in Mormons, and Mormon.org popped up.  He went there and loved the site.  On the site you can find a church near you.  So he found the church here and came the next Sunday.  He's pretty much the coolest guy ever.  Lamar is 12 but he acts like a 30 year old person.  He told us that he admired the standards and values of the church.  No 12 year old kid ever says stuff like that!  He's way solid though and we're really excited for him and Adrian.  Well there wasn't too much more that I can think happened this week.  I just love Louisiana and the people here.  I probably won't be saying that in June.  But, I'm enjoying it right now.  Really though it's such a blessing to work with these people and to help them grow closer to their Savior and see how the gospel really changes thier lives.  I love the gospel and I know that it's True!  I hope you all have a great week!

Love,
Elder Cooper
